Tips to Stay Ahead in Construction
- Define the Project Early — Don’t Let Scope Drift – Outline scope of work for everyone involved
- Use “Progressive Costing” to Prevent Budget Blowups – Require cost checks at each phase/ milestone of the project.
- Map Out the Critical Paths – Continue to map out/ schedule critical path items throughout the duration of the project
- Create a Realistic—and Transparent—Budget—Underbudgeting only hurts projects in the end. Update and track all costs as they come in, and always have a contingency bucket available
- Maintain a “Go/No-Go” Decision Framework – Take responsibility for decisions. No decision is 100 percent right, but gather all the information at hand and go or no-go. Time will eat into your budget.
